Effects of Tooth Loss
Losing a tooth has several significant effects on your life, even if the tooth cannot be seen when you smile.
What Is a Dental Implant?
A dental implant is a modern solution for replacing a missing tooth. It is a unique treatment that consists of 3 components.
Placing Your Single Tooth Implant
The process for placing a single tooth implant requires a surgical procedure. Before we begin, a local anesthetic is administered. Sedation may also be provided to help you feel more comfortable. Once the anesthetic and sedation take effect, we begin surgery with a small incision in your gums. Next, we drill a small hole into your jawbone and place the implant post inside. Your gums are then sutured closed, and a temporary tooth is set into place.
Healing from implant surgery can take several weeks. During this time, your bone gradually fuses to the post in a process called osseointegration. This process turns the post into the root that will support your crown. Several follow up visits will allow us to monitor your healing and ensure that there are no issues. Once you have fully healed, we remove the temporary tooth and place the abutment. We then take an impression of your mouth. This impression is used to design and create your final dental restoration, which is then secured into place with a small screw.
